After another year the club finds itself in much the same position as at the last General meeting, the membership, after deducting resignations and deaths and with the addition of new members is one less than a year ago. It is disappointing that the Membership shows no signs of augmenting but this appears almost impossible owing to the close canvas maintained by the R.A.C. Scouts. It is hoped that the members will assist the committee as far as they possibly can by pointing out the extra benefits received by members of this club beyond the usual R.A.C. Associates benefits and privileges, which can always be secured by the transfer of present Associates to the Lincolnshire Club upon the renewal of subscriptions.
The club now supplies its members with the R.A.C. year Book free of cost and it is interesting to note that the R.A.C. are now rewriting and revising the publication which in future will be a much more comprehensive and useful publication.
The club again supported the Skegness Race Committee by giving prizes for a special event limited in entry to members of this club. Unfortunately the event received but one entry and the prizes were by permission given to one of the open events and duly awarded. The fixture was a successful one and by the far best up to present, the local committee are to be congratulated upon the growing success and importance of the meeting. The President and several members of your committee acted as stewards of the meeting.
Your committee again entertained the members at the Lincolnshire Agricultural Show held at Cleethorpes in July, the usual marquee was erected and many of the members enjoyed the comfort and the service of afternoon tea provided similar facilities at the Grantham meeting next summer.
The work of the R.A.C. proceeds smoothly and the club has been in close association with the Ministry of Transport. Upon the occasion of the last meeting of the Council, Sir Henry Maybury, K.C.M.G., C.B., Director General of Roads, attended and gave an exposition of the work of the ministry and very valuable information as the steps being taken to provide the Motorist with smooth non-slipping Road Surfaces; he also gave sympathetic consideration to suggestions put forward by various Members of the Council.
The committee have dealt with numerous cases of road
conditions and danger points with the local authorities and scouts have been
supplied upon request to various Race Meetings and Charity Functions where the
parking of cars and the needs of our members required attendance.
