Lincolnshire Automobile Club

Annual Report of the Committee 1930

           Back

Your Committee when reporting to the members at the last Annual General meeting in January last, had pleasure in announcing that the year 1929 constituted a record in the history of the CLUB, however, the record has again been broken by the election of a further 91 members, thus proving that the popularity and efficiency of the services rendered by the club are gaining more and more appreciation amongst motorists throughout the County.

The effect of this accession of strength is reflected in the Balance Sheet attached which is submitted with every confidence for perusal. The balance of income over expenditure amounts to £78/6/10 without taking into consideration a considerable balance of collectable arrears which will accrue to the present year’s figures.

It is hoped that all members will further assist the committee by bringing the advantages of the club to the notice of their motoring friends and helping to maintain the progress made during the last two years.

The committee note with pleasure the considerable increase in Continental Touring, as since the last report there have been many more examinations for International Driving Passes and for information regarding Routes and conditions. These particulars have been supplied and returning members have expressed their fullest appreciation of the efficiency of the arrangements.

Attention is further called to the establishment by the R.A.C. of a special Department to deal with motor Camping and Caravanning and a list has already been complied of approximately 400 camping sites, and technical advice can be given the members with regard to equipment, the best methods of packing and transporting a camping outfit, water supply, sanitation, etc.

The members will have noted with satisfaction the continuing improvement of the roads with regard to surface and quality, but the dangers owing to the rapid increase of motor vehicles using them encourage the committee to suggest that still more care should be exercised throughout the coming season.

It appears from the numerous applications received for the Highway Code that there is a general impression it is now in operation. The club considers it advisable to point out, therefore, that the Highway Code at present exists in draft form only, and has yet to pass through both houses of Parliament before coming into operation.

The arrangements made for the comfort of the members at Lincolnshire Agricultural Society’s Show at Skegness appear to have been much appreciated as the number of members taking advantage of the free parking and the service of tea and refreshments in the marquee was larger than ever and in consequence the committee propose making similar provision at the forthcoming show at Lincoln in June next.
