Gentlemen,
Your Committee have the honour of reporting the work of the
year ending
During the year the club has had an influx of 67 new members as against 30 of the preceding year and 10 resignations have been received together with several losses through death and lapse of subscription without notice.
The activities of the club have consisted more particularly with the entertainment of the members at the Lincolnshire Agricultural Show at Grantham in June and a Concours d’Elegance, Gymkhana, dinner & dance at Skegness on July 27th. The show was unfortunately marred by bad weather and although the numbers taking refreshment in the Club's Marquee were considerably less, general appreciation was expressed at the service rendered and arrangements made for the comfort of our members. The Skegness meeting was very successful, an excellent entry was secured and the Concours d’Elegance produced some very fine specimens of the modern motor. The Gymkhana provided some interesting competitions for the members but did not attract the support of the public as was expected. The dinner and dance proved to be a popular event, those taking part amounting to 217.
The committee therefore feel encouraged to have a repetition of the fixture with a somewhat, abridged programme as in view of the experience gained, an extension of the Concours d’Elegance is indicated with a dinner, prize distribution and dance to follow. This matter will have the early attention of your Committee as already the Skegness council has indicated their approval and offer their support.
It will be noticed from the statement of account that the club’s finances show the definite effect of the reduction of subscription, as in this case a full year's statement is present at the lower rate, but the attention of the members is directed to the very satisfactory number of new members which is confidently expected to continue, in which case next year’s statement will show a definite improvement, especially so if the Committee have the support of the members in the introduction of the new members.
An increased number of the members have had the services of the legal department during the past year.
Considerable attention is still concentrated upon Road safety and although accidents generally are reduced in proportion, members of the club are cautioned to take particular care in night driving as in spite of the club's protests, cyclists with very inefficient reflectors are very prevalent upon the roads and in spite of the risk, continue to ride two or three abreast.
Your Committee submit a resolution for the increase of the
number of the Committee from thirteen to sixteen as it is the desire to
strengthen the representation in the Spalding and
In conclusion, your committee point to the very
considerable advantages enjoyed by the members over and above direct membership
of the R.A.C. or A.A. and great assistance would be rendered to the club if
every individual member would point this out to their motoring friends, the
central bodies maintain a continual canvass whereas this club depends entirely
upon the Committee and the goodwill of its members.
