Lincolnshire Automobile Club

Annual Report of the Committee 1914

          BACK

The Committee have pleasure in presenting their Annual Report. Forty five members have been elected during the year, and the membership now is 345.

During the year the Club has lost, by death, two members, Sir George Doughty, M.P, and Mr. R.A. Stephen, of Lincoln .

At the Annual General Meeting held on January 16th, 1914 , Sir H.B. Bacon, Bart, was re-elected President, and the Vice Presidents were also re-elected, with the addition of Captain A.G. Weigall, M.P, in place of Captain C.J.E. Parker, resigned. The committee was re-elected with the addition of Mr. Frank Dennis and the Rev. J.H. Davis and the other officials were re-elected. A new form of agreement with the Royal A.C., which involved an additional capitation fee, was considered and unanimously passed.

A large number of members have availed themselves of the free legal touring facilities offered by the Royal A.C., and free legal defence has been provided for certain members who have been involved in Police proceedings.

No speed limits have been applied for during the year. The County Surveyors of Lindsey and Kesteven have been most courteous in their consideration of applications for special signs, and the recommendations of the Committee have been invariably carried out.

Special arrangements were made for the convenience of members at the Lincs. Agricultural Society’s Show at Boston . In addition to the free garage supplied in former years, a large marquee was erected (by kind permission of the officials of the Society) where tea and other refreshments were supplied free of charge to members of the Club and their relations. This arrangements gave much pleasure to a large number of members and was much appreciated, especially by the ladies, who were able to rest and enjoy the music of the band which was playing close by.

On Saturday August 1st members and their friends were most hospitably entertained at Petwood, Woodhall Spa, by Captain and Mrs. Weigall, on the occasion of a County Cricket match. Tea was provided, the gardens of Petwood were thrown open for inspection, and a very pleasant afternoon was spent.

Some members seem to be still unaware of the fact that they are entitled to receive, free, a copy weekly of any penny Motor Journal. Any member not receiving a journal and who would like to do so should apply to the Hon. Secretary.

The outbreak of the Great European War has made its effect felt in the work of the Club.  Immediately the war broke out a Special Committee Meeting was convened by Dr. Sharp, who kindly acted as Hon. Secretary in the absence abroad of Mr. Godfrey Lowe, and matters were put in train for the formation of a register of car owners willing to give their services. The replies were classified and forwarded to the Royal A.C. A very large number of members are serving with the Naval and Military Forces, and the majority of the remainder have given valuable service by lending their cars for various purposes.
