After the excitment of the 1,000 mile tour visiting Lincoln, there were repeated calls from Lincolnshire motorists to form a Lincolnshire Automoblie Club, for the protection of motorists, and to carry out many much needed reforms. There was much to learn about the motors which drive the cars indeed, very few of the general public understood what causes the engines to work. Those joining a club should be able to learn both from the members and from the papers which the leading men in the movement may read at monthly meetings. It was felt that there was enormous scope for a Lincolnshire Automobile Club.

The leading columnist of the day for the automobile movement was Mr G.J.Wilkinson, who wrote as the "Wheelman" in a regular Tuesday column for the Lincolnshire Echo, covering both cycling and automobiles. Mr Wilkinson was part of the committee which helped to organise the visit of the 1,000 mile tour, and through his weekly column he put out an invitation to motorists to contact him with respect to forming Lincoln's very own Automobile Club. He stated that he would be prepared to do the preliminary work, and collecting Lincolnshire motorists together for the purpose of starting a club. He was in communication with the Automobile Club with respect to working with them in the formation of a club for Lincoln.

There was sufficient interest shown in1900 for the formation of the Lincolnshire Automobile Club thus ensuring the club being a successful one. The club was deemed to be of great usefulness and would do much to foster the movement. Monthly meetings would be held, with papers read by experts followed by discussion, and beginners to the motor movement assisted.

A meeting of Lincolnshire automobilists was organised by Mr Wilkinson through his Lincolnshire Echo column for the official formation of a county club.
